The Living Arts & Science Center
If your student is interested in additional art activities the Living Arts and Science Center can help. They offer several children’s art classes after school, on weekends, and on days when school is not in session (such as Spring Break).
Hoping for Spring Fine Arts Night 2011
Don’t forget! The Spring Fine Arts Night is on March 17th at 5:00. There will be special performances by: Mrs. Skelton’s 2nd grade, Mr. Piercey’s 4th grade, the 5th grade Glee Club, and the Student/Faculty Rock Band. There will be an art presentation and wonderful artwork on display. Come see what Simmons is doing!
Murals
In February, all K-5 classes participated in painting murals illustrating four content areas: math, science, language arts, and social studies. The students were involved at every step, including drawing, painting, and finishing the murals with a clear coat. I am so proud of all the students who worked very hard to help complete the murals. We are so thankful for the support of the Specials team, the PTA, Mr. Caudill, Mrs. Goh and Mrs. Mogge. They helped make the murals possible.
We look forward to more mural painting experiences!
Yearbook Contest
Google Art Project
Note to Parents: You should visit online museum galleries with your children, some artworks might not be appropriate.
Google has a new website called Art Project. This website has virtual tours of famous art museums from around the world. You can see the famous artworks you would see in Italy, Spain, or New York! This website allows visitors to have a museum experience without the travel. If you find an interesting artwork, you can click on it to get a closer look and to learn more about it.
Murals at Simmons
With the generous support of the PTA, all classes will participate in painting a mural from Monday, Jan. 31st through Thursday, February 4th, during their art classes. If needed, any additional painting will take place the following week Monday, February 7th through Thursday, February 10th. If you are interested in helping out at any time, please contact Ms. Baird (sara.baird@woodford.kyschools.us). We are so excited to offer such a great opportunity to our students and look forward to a fun experience!
Crayola 2010-2011 Online Art Exhibit
Fourth and fifth grade students from Friday classes have artwork displayed in Crayola’s Online Art Exhibit. This is an annual, national, juried contest that showcases student creativity around a theme. This year’s theme is “Visual Voices: Speak Up for Creativity.” Students worked independently to create original artworks that focus on why creativity is important. You can follow the link below and specify your search within the gallery.
We are very proud of our students!
Simmons at Southern Lights
Simmons at Southern Lights: November 26th-December 31st
Students from the 5th grade Club Friday Art class created decorations for Southern Lights at the Kentucky Horse Park. Our indoor tree has a theme of KY culture: horseshoes and bluegrass banjos. Our tree is located in the cafeteria next to the Visitor’s Center. If you are out enjoying the beautiful lights, don’t forget to visit our tree.
