Banner for KSBA

Several months ago, Superintendent Hawkins asked Simmons to create a banner that would represent Woodford County Schools at the annual Kentucky School Board Association conference.  The banner needed to follow the theme:  College/Career Readiness: Kentucky’s Real 2012 Olympics.

Most school districts in Kentucky would also be participating in creating a banner.  Woodford County has a lot to offer students and I wanted our banner to reflect those possibilities.  I worked with Mr. Clark’s 5th grade class to paint our wonderful banner.  The students worked on the banner for approximately three weeks, and finished adding the details today.  They did an AMAZING job!  The banner shows the fencing found across Woodford County, the learning steps on the path of education, and future opportunities in several countries.  I am so excited to share Simmons’ talents with the rest of the state!

Winter Fine Arts Night & Snowflake Feast

Thank you for all who joined us for the Winter Fine Arts Night on December 7th and the Snowflake Feast on December 8th.  The students did a fantastic job preparing for both events.  All grade levels have artwork in the show and 5th through 1st grade created decorations for the Snowflake Feast.  Our students are so talented and take pride in seeing their artwork on display.  Stop by and see what your students are creating.

Welcome Back!

The art room has been a great place to be for our first weeks of school!  The students have really grown as artists over the summer.  I am so excited to see what they will create this year.

I would like to thank all the families who have generously donated supplies to the art room.  If your family has or could save any of the following supplies, we will certainly put them to good use.  You can send these supplies in any time and we will continue to need them throughout the year.

Supplies:

  • Cleaned Egg Cartons
  • Baby Wipes
  • Newspapers
  • School-friendly magazines
  • Q-Tip Cotton Swabs

Thank you for all of your support!

Go Green+Art Club

The 5th grade Art Club has teamed up with the Go Green Club to help make recycling easier at Simmons.  The Art Club has started painting a “Green Zone” mural that will help students organize their recycling into the appropriate bins.  We are excited to see more murals happening at Simmons, so please stop by to get a look.

The mural is complete!  It is fantastic!

Academic Team is Regional Champ

On Saturday, March 19th, the Simmons Academic Team competed in the Regional Tournament with six other districts.  The competition was challenging, but Simmons took 1st place Overall and 2nd place in Quick Recall.  Mrs. Tincher and I are very proud of all the hard work the Academic Team students have put in this year.  Congratulations on a job well done!
