3rd gr.- Fall Artwork
The 3rd grade has been learning about pattern, artistic expression, and color. We read Elmer by David McKee which tells the story of an elephant who learned to love being different. We created elephants using nine different patterns. The 3rd grade has been learning about I and the Village by Marc Chagall. We created artworks that used symbols from our memories. We learned about the abstract art of Mark Rothko and created paintings using warm colors.

1000 Dolls with Transylvania University
Ms. Hanna Leatherman, a former Simmons student, worked with our 4th grade to create 100 clothespin dolls. These dolls are part of the 1000 Dolls project lead by Transylvania University’s Community Engagement Through the Arts class. The dolls will be placed outside around Lexington’s North Limestone area to be found by the community. The goal is to bring people together in making the dolls and finding the dolls.
More information about the Community Engagement Through the Arts program is available at: http://communityengagements.blogspot.com/.
The dolls wil be exhibited in a gallery at the Kentucky Theatre from April 4th-9th. The grand opening of the exhibit will be at 7:00 pm on April 4th. The opening will be held with potluck style food and local bands playing throughout the evening. We hope to see you there!
